Homelessness charity Crisis are looking for Classroom Assistant Volunteers to support their outreach work in and around Bootle.
Crisis Skylight Merseyside provide free services to those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Their services include learning sessions, on a variety of subjects, which are delivered at outreach venues across Merseyside. Sessions are wide ranging in content and include arts, technical skills (plastering/tiling/catering) and functional skills (IT/creative writing/lyric writing/magazine) as well as health and wellbeing.
They are currently looking to recruit Classroom Assistant Volunteers who support Crisis’ coordinators and tutors during these learning sessions.
Classroom Assistants support participants to take part in activities during the sessions. This could involve both group and one to one work. Volunteers will also assist in the collection of data and paperwork, and help to the set up and tidying up of each session.
There will also be the opportunity to support special events, such as class trips and end of term events.
Volunteers will need to have good communication skills, be enthusiastic and a genuine interest in working with people. Experience in any of the subjects would be welcomed, but is not essential.
Ideally volunteers will be able to commit to 3 hours a week, initially over a period of 12 weeks, which would cover a term of learning sessions.
