New Waterloo Boutique Charity Shop Seeks Volunteers

The Whitechapel Centre is to open the doors to their third charity shop on South Road in Waterloo at the end of this month, following on from the success of their first shop on Allerton Road, and their stall at Red Brick Market. Open Door is excited to bring its unique take on the traditional charity shop to the bustling independent community of Waterloo.

In the build up to the new store opening there are currently volunteer opportunities available. If you have an interest in fashion and creativity, a love of social media and enjoy talking to new people then this could be the position for you. If you have a spare morning or afternoon free and would like more information on opportunities available then please contact Jess Salmon at jess.salmon@whitechapelcentre.co.uk or apply via the website https://www.whitechapelcentre.co.uk/volunteer-with-us.html

A must-visit for Liverpool fashionistas, Open Door is changing the expectations of a charity shop, feeling more like a boutique stocked with top high-street brands of pre-loved and brand-new-with-tags fashion items. On the rails  there are many familiar brands from Top Shop, Asos, Zara, Urban Outfitters and thanks to donations from our corporate supporter Shop Direct, we have brand new items from Ted Baker, Very, Kurt Geiger, Oasis and lots, lots more.

Susan Ryder, Open Door’s Shop Manager explains how:

“Think of a charity shop – what springs to mind? Fighting your way through racks and rails of clothing to find a vintage gem.  Shelves of bric-a- brac, and that thrill you get when striking gold. Our high street is bustling with this kind of charity shop, and I love them.

At Open Door I wanted to create something different, we have shaken up the City’s charity shop scene, with our unique approach to selling donated clothing. We wanted to find a way to be heard amongst the more established charity shops; the only way to do this was to offer a new way of selling and presenting the fabulous clothes that we receive.

Open Door love to follow trends, but we create trends to follow, we ask that our customers follow us  #fashionmakesfutures on Instagram to keep up to date with the stock we have in store.”

Liverpool is an extremely generous and fashion loving city, and its thanks to the large amounts high quality donations to The Whitechapel Centre that we are able to provide vital clothing for our clients who are homeless as well as stock our shops.   The people using our services are at the centre of everything we do and we make sure that suitable donations of warm, practical outdoor clothing are used to benefit them. Through Open Door we have been able to introduce a clothing scheme for our clients who have appointments or job interviews so that we can help provide an outfit appropriate for the occasion.

The Whitechapel Centre’s first Open Door shop opened in December 2015 on Allerton Road. The success of Open Door at Allerton Road has enabled the charity to raise vital funds to provide essential support for people who are rough sleeping and at risk of homelessness 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Being able to take this next step in Waterloo will generate further funding to help us work towards ending homelessness in Liverpool.
