Volunteer Advocates and Independent Visitors are sought to support children and young people in care.
Sefton’s Voluntary Independent Visiting & Advocacy Service are looking for volunteers to support their work with children and young people.
Independent Visitors meet with a child or young person once a month to help them increase their confidence and build self-esteem. By helping them take part in fun activities, hobbies and day trips you would help them to develop meaningful long-term relationships with adults.
Currently, VIVA particularly welcomes applications from male volunteers, as several of their young people would benefit from a male role model.
Independent Advocates give a few hours a month to support children and young people in making their voices heard. This might involve attending meetings with the young person, helping them to understand decisions that have been made about their care or assisting them in identifying the services that are available to them.
Independent Advocates regularly need to attend meetings during office hours, therefore VIVA particularly welcome interest from volunteers who are available midweek (any days Monday to Friday)
Volunteers for both roles must be aged 18 or over, and will receive full training, ongoing support and out of pocket expenses.
VIVA Sefton’s next Volunteer Training Programme will be taking place across 5 consecutive Wednesday evenings from 11th September until 9th October.
