During Trustees’ Week 2020, we are promoting a number of local charities which are looking to recruit new trustees.
Sefton OPERA (Older Persons Enabling Resource & Action) is based in the heart of Bootle and works throughout the whole of the borough of Sefton.
Since its inception, OPERA has worked with over 95,600 people facilitating activities ranging from basic hand massage training to full programmes of complimentary therapies. Other activities include Tai Chi, Eating Well Mentor Sessions, Chair Exercise Sessions, Intergenerational Projects, Health & Well Being de-Stress Sessions, Sing a Long & Music Sessions, 50+ Learn to Swim sessions, Computer ICT & Digital Camera Sessions, Art & Craft Sessions, as well as Monthly Social Outings and Tea Dances.
The charity is looking to recruit two new trustees: a Treasurer and a Management Committee Member.
|The Treasurer oversees the financial management of the organisation, liaising with staff to ensure Sefton OPERA operates legally, in line with their constitutionl and within accepted accounting practice. They will ensure Management provide and keep proper records while making sure effective financial procedures are in place. They will oversee the Management on the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits. |
The Treasurer will need knowledge and experience of current finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations. They will ideally have a knowledge of bookkeeping and financial management (as necessary) and good analysis skills. As with all trustees, the Treasurer will need to have good communication skills.
The Management Committee Member will provide support and direction for the organisation alongside the other trustees through collective decision making. To become provide a pool of expertise and advice i.e. making advice and expertise available to the committee, staff and volunteers.
Management Committee Members will need to demonstrate a commitment to the organisation and it’s aims and a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role. They will possess good judgement and independence of mind, and be able to work collectively as part of the Committee.
The Managment Committee meet bimonthly, for roughly an hour, and both volunteers would need to attend the majority of these, alongside an Annual Genera Meeting which takes place once a year. The Treasurer would also need to be available to liaise with the management team to review accounting procedures and policies, and to be kept up-to-date on the charity’s finances, generally for an hour before each Committee meeting.
If you would be interested in either role, or would like more information, please contact Vikki Martlow, Sefton OPERA’s Organisational Manager, on 0151 330 0479 or email Vikki.firstname.lastname@example.org
