Re-engage run tea parties for people aged 75+ once a month to provide an afternoon of conversation and laughter with friends for people who are socially isolated.
This is a flexible, voluntary role that can easily be fitted in around one’s own lifestyle and availability. Volunteer hosts run a local Re-engage tea party one to two times a year and host a group of four to 12 people (which includes drivers, the group coordinator as well as older guests). This can either be in the volunteer’s home or a local community venue. The tea parties will last around two hours and will usually take place on a Sunday afternoon.
Volunteers must be comfortable socialising with people and providing guests and other volunteers with refreshments.
Dougie, aged 76 regularly attends tea parties:
What a difference it’s made to me, being part of a social group again. At first, I was a bit nervous about going but everyone’s so friendly and it’s great to have conversations with different people. I’m not nearly so lonely now. I really love the company. If I had the chance, I would go every day.
