Volunteer of the Year 2025 nominees
Mabel Robin – Southport and Formby Macmillan Centre
Nominated by Justine, Centre Manager at Southport and Formby Macmillan Centre
Mabel volunteers for us every Friday. She travels from the other side of Sefton to help at our Centre because she believes in the importance of our service. She supports our Shared Reading and Craft Group by making drinks, washing up, socialising and befriending the members. Mabel then stays on to cover the Centre for us over the lunch period. She is very skilled at talking to our patients. She has had her own cancer experience and wants to give back the support that she had. As well as volunteering for our Centre, Mabel also volunteers for Macmillan on a national level, taking part in panels and supporting other volunteers. Outside of her Macmillan volunteering, Mabel helps at a holiday club run by her church for low income families. She is also happy to help at other events we have such as the Spring Fayre and Coffee Mornings or Christmas Parties. She is always willing and helpful. It is lovely to have her to help us and she is very reliable.

Young Volunteer of the Year nominees 2025.
Daisy Langton, Friends of South Park
Nominated by Liz, All in Nature/ Friends of South Park, Bootle
Daisy has been volunteering now for just over a year. She came into the garden ( bravely!) by herself to see what we did in our space. She is 21 and had been looking for somewhere to meet people, be outdoors and contribute to a project. Over the last year, Daisy has attended over 90 general volunteering sessions, often staying for more than 4 hours. She has embraced any courses we have run and has achieved First Aid at Work certificate and composting introduction. She has also attended a CVS CANVA course on our behalf and now produces our marketing posters! She is always eager to learn new skills and to ‘get stuck in’ whether its weeding, digging, sorting out compost bins or whatever is required. She has supported our family sessions and is really popular with the younger children who attend – all asking “where’s Daisy?” when they come in. Daisy hadn’t really done much food growing before coming to the community garden, but now has seen and participated in a full year of producing produce. Leeks are a Daisy speciality! She brings a youthfulness and cheeriness to our space and is now an integral part of our community. She has even agreed to be on our committee, representing younger volunteers’ views and learning about how to manage a group setting which is contributing to her employability skill set. What a transformation to the day when came into the garden, a little but shy and unsure. We’re proud of you Daisy! thank you for all your hard work.
Thank you to Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa for sponsoring the Young Volunteer of the Year Award.
