Over 100 volunteers from across Sefton were recognised and celebrated at a special Volunteer Celebration Event held at Bootle Town Hall on Wednesday, 4 June, as part of Volunteers’ Week.
Organised by Volunteer Centre Sefton, the event brought together volunteers from a wide range of organisations, including Friends’ groups, local charities, and national charities, all of whom make a vital contribution to communities throughout the borough.
The Mayor of Sefton, Councillor Jennifer Corcoran, was joined by the Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside, Mr Peter Oliver and Sefton CVS Patron, Colonel Amlôt, to honour the dedication and achievements of volunteers. Together, they presented certificates to individuals in recognition of their invaluable service across Sefton.

A highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the Volunteer of the Year and Young Volunteer of the Year awards:
- Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Veronica Myers from Home-Start Southport & Formby for her outstanding commitment and support to local families.

Young Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Tegan Hankinson from Parkhaven Trust in recognition of her inspiring contribution and dedication at a young age.

Speaking after the event, Volunteer Coordinator Helen Duerden said:
“It was a fantastic afternoon celebrating the incredible contribution our volunteers make across Sefton. Their dedication, compassion and willingness to give their time to support others is truly inspiring. We are proud to recognise and thank each and every one of them for the difference they make in our communities.”
Speaking at the event, Councillor Corcoran praised the extraordinary efforts of volunteers, highlighting the positive impact they have on the lives of residents across Sefton. The Lord-Lieutenant also commended the volunteers for their commitment, emphasising the crucial role volunteering plays in strengthening communities.
The event provided an opportunity not only to celebrate individual achievements but also to recognise the collective contribution of volunteers who give their time, skills, and energy to support others.
Volunteer Centre Sefton would like to extend its sincere thanks to everyone who attended and to all volunteers whose ongoing dedication continues to make Sefton a stronger, more connected borough. The Centre would also like to thank Karena Flower Shop in Formby for donating the table flowers.
